Hold A Service Where You Please!

Last week we organised a funeral for the late Robert Gascoigne, but it wasn’t your traditional affair.

Bobby’s family wanted something more fitting, something to represent his personality – so they approached Go As You Please.

After a few phone calls and some research by Malissa, the Brinkburn Street Brewery was the chosen venue, and they were more than happy to accommodate Bobby, his family and his friends.

On the day there was no rush or worries about the service following us in, that you would expect with a crematorium. Bobby’s friends enjoyed a drink before the service, they listened intently throughout, and they applauded their friend out of the room as his closest friends carried him back to the hearse. The following morning there was a smaller service with final farewells at Northumberland Woodland Burials.

The point is, you don’t have to settle for ‘traditional’ if that’s not for you, you are allowed to think outside of the box. There are no rules on where the service can be held. As long as you have permission from whoever owns the land or the venue, nowhere is ‘out of bounds’.

A funeral is a chance to share memories, an opportunity to say goodbye, a moment that hopefully brings a little comfort. So if you do want a less traditional service for a loved one, or for yourself, make sure your loved one’s know.

Thank you to Brinkburn Street Brewery for the venue, and thank you Tracey for letting us share Bobby’s special day…. He has gone fishin’
