Announcement regarding FCA regulation of prepaid funeral plans
We’re delighted to confirm that our new funeral plan provider Independent Funeral Planning Services will be authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority as a provider of funeral plans.
The regulator took on supervision of the funeral planning market today (29 July), which means that all funeral plan companies and those involved in selling and delivering funeral plans are required to meet high standards. We believe this is a positive step forward for the funeral planning industry, and will provide customers with greater certainty and reassurance.
Whilst we were already closely aligned to the principles of the FCA, there’s been a lot of work involved to make sure all our systems and process are set up correctly to meet the new requirements, and we’re proud of the collaboration we’ve had with our plan provider The IFPS on this.

UPDATE – 20th June 2022. We are very pleased to confirm that our new funeral plan provider, Independent Funeral Planning Services Limited, has achieved the “Intending to Authorise” status with the FCA. We are one of only 26 companies in the UK to achieve this. All our current plan holders will receive a letter in the next 2-6 weeks updating them on this. Please refer to the FCA website

There has been a lot of press recently regarding the upcoming regulation of the prepaid funeral plan industry by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which is due to take effect on 29th July 2022.
Regulation of this market is something which will change the industry for the better by protecting the customer and only allowing authorised companies to continue selling funeral plans. It will allow customers to purchase funeral plans with confidence and security. As a company who constantly strive to provide our customers with a transparent and honest service, Go As You Please welcome this change with open arms.
Whilst Go As You Please has not directly applied for FCA authorisation, we are working closely with a new company called Independent Funeral Planning Services Ltd (IFPS) which has been specifically set up to comply with the forthcoming regulation. IFPS is one of 37 companies nationwide who have applied. None of these companies have actually been approved yet, but IFPS are in constant communication with the FCA and are confident that their application will be successful.
What does this mean for current plan holders?
Plan Holders who have purchased a Go As You Please Funeral Plan have their funds held in an independent dedicated trust managed by The Funeral Trustee Company Limited. Under the new regulations this will remain the same and Go As You Please will still provide your funeral at time of need. The only change for you will be an administrative change which you will be informed of in writing once we have legal confirmation. All this means is that the administration of your plan will be transferred from Go As You Please to IFPS.
This change does not affect your statutory right to cancel your plan either now or in the future. If you are paying for your plan in full, to receive a full refund you must cancel the plan within the cooling off period which is 30 days from the date you received our contractual terms. If you cancel your plan after the cooling off period, you will be entitled to a refund of any monies paid, minus the administration fee paid initially.
If you are paying for your plan in instalments and cancel your plan within the instalment period you will be entitled to a refund of any monies paid, minus the administration fee paid initially.
We do not charge for cancellations.
We also have customers who have taken out plans with other providers e.g. Golden Charter and Funeral Planning Services (Ecclesiastical Planning Services). You will hear separately from these companies regarding their progress with the application.
For up to date information on all applicants progress please see the FCA website at https://www.fca.org.uk/consumers/funeral-plans/providers-list
