Established in 2001, our natural burial ground, Seven Penny Meadow, is located in an idyllic hilltop position with breath-taking views across the Derwent valley; close to Hamsterley Mill and Medomsley in County Durham.

Natural burial is a term used to describe the burial of the deceased in an area which creates new habitats for wildlife (flora and fauna) or preserves existing habitats.  At a time when municipal and church cemeteries are running out of space and there are environmental concerns over cremations; natural burials offer an alternative which is environmentally friendly, whilst having the long-term benefits of giving back to nature and creating public green spaces.

We have an ongoing program for the development of native flora at Seven Penny Meadow, with an aim to create a self-sustaining natural environment in the long term.

At Seven Penny Meadow we encourage freedom, creativity and participation to plan a memorable celebration of a loved one’s life.  Without the constraints expected at crematoriums or council cemeteries, our customers have the ideal opportunity to realise this.  Ideas as simple as hot drinks and biscuits, through to live music or night time funerals are all possible; and your time is not restricted.

We off a range of fully customisable funeral plans, plus additional products and services.  We are also happy to advise people who wish to plan a celebration independently.

Seven Penny Meadow is always open to visitors and we have ample parking on site.  Visitors are welcome at all times, whether it be to visit a loved one or to simply enjoy the environment.

“The Lodge” offers a sheltered area in which families can hold funeral services or gatherings.  In the warmer months, the decked area provides a great viewpoint of the burial ground and the valley.  In the colder months the log burner inside takes the chill off and provides a cosy atmosphere.  There is disabled access to The Lodge.

We have a dedicated area for the burial of ashes.

Toilet facilities are available for funerals.

Dotted around the site are seating areas where people can relax and enjoy the surroundings, take some time for quiet contemplation, or even have a picnic.

We would like to thank Kate and all the other staff involved in the arrangement of the funeral. Your caring and professional approach was comforting to us all at such a sad time.

From the moment I walked into your office I immediately felt at ease.  I would like to say a great big thank you to all involved in my mams funeral arrangements; a special thank you to Kate and Barbara for their patience and empathy during this sad chapter in my life, you were wonderful and relieved me of so much stress.  Please take care, I would recommend your services to everyone in my position. I can’t thank you enough.
There was an almost instant reply from my enquiry on line and honesty of being a ‘small family business’ sealed the deal. It was a job well done.  Thank you.  The dignity you all gave my brother was much appreciated from start to finish, the non-judgmental approach and no questions asked; just calm acceptance.  I feel so privileged to have had my trust in your services rewarded with such a gracious funeral for my brother.  The continuity of care has been second to none and all of the staff involved had an exceptional gift and intuition how to understand people.  As we live a distance away the kind guidance you gave was deeply appreciated; from advice re local florists and prices to collecting personal belongings, sensitive communication through emails, text messages and telephone calls. Sam, the funeral director was exceptional.  I have no doubt that Go As You Please funerals will always ensure the highest of standards are always maintained and wish you well.
